Jo-ey Tang will be in conversation with James Voorhies about the work of artist Carrie Yamaoka. Their discussion will consider Yamaoka’s recent projects, including the photographic series Archipelagoes, and her new monograph RE: Carrie Yamaoka, which presents the artist’s work in an active compositional field, alongside commissioned texts—among them Tang’s own contribution.

Tang will reflect on Yamaoka’s decades-long engagement with materiality and her evolving approach to landscape as fractured, relational, and resistant—exploring how abstraction and affect reverberate across visual and textual registers, and how curatorial dialogue and collaboration with artists can echo those movements.

Copies of RE: Carrie Yamaoka (Radius Books, 2025) will be available for purchase.

Conversations is a series of talks with artists, writers, and curators related to the work on view and themes explored in the exhibitions.
